Megan Hugo

Megan Hugo began her career as an Environmental Consultant in February 2015 following the completion of her Bachelor of Science (Zoology and Environmental Science) and Honours degree in Environmental Science at Rhodes University, Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown). She has further strengthened her professional expertise through accredited training in Environmental Impact Assessment and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
Megan joined Indwe Environmental Consulting in September 2017 and became a main member of the company in April 2018. She is a Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) with the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA) (Registration No. 2019/1530) and is also registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) (Registration No. 118810). In addition, she is an active member of both the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) South Africa and Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA)
As a Director and Principal Environmental Assessment Practitioner and Environmental Control Practitioner at Indwe Environmental Consulting, Megan is responsible for the strategic management of the business, including company operations, financial management, business development, quality assurance, and the delivery of environmental consulting services. She leads multidisciplinary project teams and oversees the successful execution of projects from inception through to regulatory approval and implementation.
Over more than 11 years in the environmental consulting industry, Megan has developed extensive experience across the full spectrum of Integrated Environmental Management. Her expertise includes Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessments, Basic Assessment Processes, Environmental Auditing, Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs), Strategic Environmental Planning, Water Use Licence Applications and General Authorisations, Ecological Assessments, Environmental Compliance Monitoring, and broader project management. She has considerable experience navigating the regulatory requirements of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), National Water Act (NWA), National Forests Act (NFA), and the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA), including permitting requirements associated with these regulations.
Throughout her career, Megan has served as Project Manager and Lead Environmental Assessment Practitioner on a diverse range of projects across South Africa. These include large-scale public infrastructure developments such as regional water supply schemes, water and wastewater treatment works, bulk pipelines, national and provincial road upgrades, transmission and distribution powerlines, renewable energy facilities, and public utility infrastructure. She has also successfully managed environmental authorisation processes for commercial and residential developments, mixed-use developments, agricultural enterprises, mining and quarrying projects, large public and private in-stream and off-stream water storage dams, and the rehabilitation of sensitive coastal and terrestrial environments.
Megan’s comprehensive understanding of South African environmental legislation, coupled with her extensive practical experience—particularly within the Eastern Cape—enables her to provide pragmatic, technically sound, and legally robust environmental solutions. Her strong project leadership, stakeholder engagement skills, and commercial understanding ensure the successful delivery of complex projects while maintaining high standards of technical quality, regulatory compliance, and client service.
Nicola Monks
REGISTERED ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PRACTITIONER AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL PRACTITIONER (EAPASA)- REG. NO 2019/743
Nicola Monks joined Indwe Environmental Consulting in 2019 and is a Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) with a passion for delivering practical, sustainable environmental solutions. She holds a Master of Science in Geography (Environmental Wetland Management) from Nelson Mandela University and has developed extensive experience in environmental authorisations, environmental compliance, ecological assessments, GIS mapping, and public participation. Nicola is also registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) (Registration No. 121556) and is an active member of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA).
Nicola has managed and contributed to a wide range of projects across the infrastructure, water, agriculture, commercial, industrial and residential sectors. Her expertise includes Basic Assessments, aquatic baseline studies, environmental screening studies, environmental compliance auditing, Environmental Control Officer (ECO) services, rehabilitation planning and stakeholder engagement.
Known for her attention to detail and strong technical skills, Nicola enjoys working closely with clients to guide projects through South Africa’s environmental regulatory processes while ensuring practical and compliant outcomes. Her background in wetland management and GIS provides additional value when assessing environmentally sensitive sites and developing sustainable project solutions.

Kevin Bickell
Candidate Environmental Assessment Practitioner and Environmental Control Officer/ Practitioner
Kevin Bickell joined Indwe Environmental Consulting in 2022 and is an Environmental Consultant with a strong foundation in environmental management, compliance monitoring and environmental impact assessment. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and an Honours degree in Environmental Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA), and has completed a Master of Science in Environmental Management. Kevin is registered with EAPASA (Reg. No. 2022/5288) as a Candidate EAP, and is currently in the process of submitting his upgrade application to Registered EAP and ECP. Kevin is also registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) (Registration No. 154317) and is an active member of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA).
Kevin has developed extensive experience across a wide range of environmental projects throughout South Africa, with particular expertise in environmental authorisation processes, environmental compliance auditing and Environmental Control Practitioner/ Officer (ECP/O) services. He has contributed to Basic Assessments, environmental screening studies, rehabilitation plans and water-related environmental approvals, while supporting projects within the water, transport, commercial, renewable energy and public infrastructure sectors.
As part of the Indwe team, Kevin manages environmental compliance on numerous construction projects, undertakes site inspections and environmental audits, prepares technical reports, and assists with GIS mapping, stakeholder engagement and project implementation. His practical approach, strong organisational skills and commitment to delivering high-quality environmental solutions make him a valued member of the Indwe Environmental Consulting team.
Michaela Naude
Candidate Environmental Assessment Practitioner and Environmental Control Practitioner (EAPASA) (Reg. No 2022/5666).
Michaela Naude joined Indwe Environmental Consulting in 2024 and is an Environmental Consultant with a growing portfolio of experience in environmental impact assessment, environmental compliance, and project management. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and an Honours degree in Life Sciences from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and is currently completing a Master of Environmental Management degree through North-West University. Michaela is a Candidate Environmental Assessment Practitioner and Environmental Control Practitioner with EAPASA and a Candidate Natural Scientist (SACNASP).
Since joining Indwe, Michaela has contributed to a diverse range of environmental projects across the public infrastructure, water, agriculture, renewable energy, mining and commercial sectors. Her experience includes Basic Assessment Processes, water use applications, environmental screening studies, public participation, stakeholder engagement, environmental compliance auditing, and Environmental Control Practitioner / Officer (ECP/O) services. She also coordinates specialist studies, prepares technical reports and assists with project management to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and in accordance with South African environmental legislation.
Michaela is recognised for her strong organisational skills, attention to detail and collaborative approach. Her passion for environmental management, combined with her technical expertise and commitment to continuous professional development, enables her to support clients in achieving practical, sustainable and legally compliant environmental outcomes.
Karla Bossé
Environmental Consultant – Water Use Authorisations
Karla joined Indwe Environmental Consulting in July 2026 as an Environmental Consultant specialising in Water Use Authorisations. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences with Geography and Geology and a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Environmental Sciences with Geography and Environmental Management from North-West University. Karla is registered as a Certificated Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) (Registration No. 138113).
Prior to joining Indwe Environmental Consulting, Karla gained over four years of experience with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), where she served in both the Water Quality Management and Water Use Authorisation directorates within the Mzimvubu–Tsitsikamma Proto-Catchment Management Area. In these roles, she was responsible for assessing and processing Water Use Authorisation and Water Use Licence Applications (WULAs), undertaking site inspections, compiling technical assessment reports, and formulating recommendations to support decision-making by the Provincial Water Use Licence Assessment Advisory Committee (PWULAAC).
Karla possesses extensive practical knowledge of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998), associated General Authorisations, water use licensing procedures, and the Department’s Electronic Water Use Licence Application and Authorisation System (e-WULAAS). She has provided specialist technical input into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs), Basic Assessment Reports (BARs), and Water Use Licence Applications for a wide range of developments, including water and wastewater infrastructure, mining, renewable energy facilities, agricultural developments, fuel filling stations, commercial developments, bridges, and residential projects.
Her professional experience also includes water quality management, regulatory compliance inspections, pollution incident investigations, aquatic biomonitoring, water treatment works inspections, drinking water quality compliance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement with government authorities, consultants and applicants. Karla has extensive experience interpreting water legislation and regulatory requirements, ensuring that development proposals comply with the National Water Act and associated environmental legislation.
At Indwe Environmental Consulting, Karla is responsible for leading and supporting Water Use Licence Applications, General Authorisation applications, e-WULAAS submissions, water-related environmental approvals, and regulatory liaison with the Department of Water and Sanitation.
